The Board of Education exists for the purpose of providing a system of free, public education for children in grades K through 12. It is the function of the Board to establish policies, and make decisions, on the basis of declared educational philosophy and goals.
The Board of Education does not discriminate in regards to religion, race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its program, activities, or employment.

Tammy Schafer, presidentTammy Schafer currently serves as the President of the GLPS Board of Education and has been a dedicated board member for 19 years. Throughout her long-standing service, she has held multiple leadership roles, including Trustee and Secretary. A resident of the district for 30 years, Tammy is deeply rooted in the community. She is the parent of three GLPS graduates—each completing all 12 years within the district—and she also has three children who are currently enrolled in GLPS schools. Her commitment to supporting school programs began long before her board tenure, both as a proud Rebel mom and now as a Legendary Mom. Tammy has been extensively involved in school activities, serving with the Athletic Boosters from 2012 to 2017 and actively participating as a Band Parent for many years, including chaperoning several band camps. While you may occasionally see her in the school buildings, you will more often find her at extracurricular events, enthusiastically supporting students across the district. Professionally, Tammy brings strong administrative expertise to the Board of Education. Her experience enhances the board’s ability to collaborate effectively and operate with unity and purpose. | Allyssa Zamarripa, vice presidentAllyssa Zamarripa has been a district resident for three years and has served on the board since April 2024, being elected Vice President in 2025. A former GLPS student and graduate of Wyoming Public Schools, she brings professional experience in both finance and elementary education. Allyssa holds an Associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University, and a Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Policy, Planning, and Administration from Western Michigan University and also holds a certificate in School Social Work. She is deeply committed to effective school governance, advancing equity, and ensuring that all students have the resources and support necessary to thrive. |

Josephine coleman, secretaryJosephine Coleman has been a proud member of the Godfrey-Lee community since 1997.Originally from Michigan’s east side, she moved to West Michigan after an honorable discharge from the United States Army, where she served as a Telecommunications Center Operator. Josephine is married and the mother of two graduates from the Lee High School classes of 2011 and 2016.As an IT Business Analyst, she brings a wealth of professional experience and a strong commitment to supporting students, staff, and families. During her full-time career over the years, Josephine has volunteered in the school district and served in numerous leadership roles which include serving as the Parent Teacher Committee Secretary(2002–2004), the Band Boosters Secretary (2007–2015), the Athletic Boosters-Secretary(2010–2016), and as a founding member of the Lee Soccer Alumni Association (2018–2023).Her call to serve the community during all these years was to ensure all students had the opportunity to learn and grow. She is always supporting and encouraging students and staff to succeed. Her dedication to education and student success led her to continue this journey as she accepted the appointment to the Board of Education in 2018 as a Trustee, and continues her elected position as Board Secretary. Josephine believes deeply in the strength of the district: “Our students are exceptional, their families are incredibly supportive, and our staff is among the most caring and committed educators anywhere.” | 
Cheryl slaughter, treasurerCheryl Slaughter, the current board treasurer, has served on the Godfrey Lee School Board since 2020. A semiretired art teacher, she brings nearly 40 years of experience in classroom instruction and enrichment program administration to the board. Ms. Slaughter holds both BA and M.Ed. degrees in art education, elementary education, gifted and talented education, and technology from GVSU, WMU, and other institutions. In addition to her work in public education, she has contributed her skills to local museums and educational organizations. Her three sons graduated from Lee High School in 2015 and2016. Throughout the years, she has actively supported the GLPS community through the band boosters, athletic boosters, senior safe night, drama programs, and various other initiatives. A district resident since 1990, Ms. Slaughter looks forward to continuing her service to GLPS students and their families. |

Joel kibbe, trusteeJoel has been a member of the Godfrey-Lee community for nearly 20 years and is a librarian in Kent County. He was elected to the school board in 2024 after witnessing firsthand the value our exceptional district brings to our singular community. Joel is committed to preserving what makes Godfrey-Lee special while building upon its strengths as the district moves into the future. He is especially passionate about expanding opportunities for students and supporting the ongoing development of our staff. As a librarian, Joel is passionate about literacy, equitable access to information, and life long learning. His college studies centered on secondary education, and he has remained actively involved in the community as both a parent and a volunteer. His time shadowing at the East Lee Campus, ECC, and Godfrey Elementary has cemented his appreciation for the dedicated staff and faculty of our district. | 
Amanda Salgado, trusteeAmanda Salgado has been a proud member of the Godfrey-Lee community for over 15years. Originally from Texas, she later moved to Michigan, where she built strong roots with her family. Amanda is a mother of three children who are currently enrolled in the Godfrey-Lee School District. A 2010 graduate of Lee High School, Amanda brings both personal connection and professional experience to her involvement in the district. She has worked in international customer order management for over 15 years, developing strong skills in organization, communication, and problem-solving that will serve the board well. Amanda is also an avid volunteer parent within the schools. She served on the PTA during the 2024-2025 school year. That along with volunteering as a chaperon and school activities she truly enjoys her time supporting the schools, teachers and students. As both an alumna and a parent, Amanda is deeply invested in the continued success of the district and its students. She values the strong sense of community and the commitment to excellence that defines Godfrey-Lee. |

Eunice villarreal, trusteeEunice A. Villarreal has been a proud resident of Wyoming, MI for over 15 years. As a parent of two daughters and a family member to several graduates and future graduates of this school district, Eunice has a deep personal connection to Godfrey-Lee Public Schools and a strong commitment to the success of its students. In addition to serving as a School Board Trustee, Eunice serves as a Bilingual Office Manager at a local law firm, where she brings extensive experience in strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. A dedicated advocate for education and equity, Eunice strives to support policies and initiatives to ensure all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment. Eunice chose to serve as a School Board Trustee to help ensure that every student—regardless of background or circumstance—has access to education and the support needed to reach their full potential.
